History of coffee
Are you a coffee lover? Most of the world is and rightfully so. Coffee has been around since the fifteenth century. It is thought that the Ethiopian people of South Africa were the first to discover the stimulating effects of the coffee bean after they noticed their goats a bit friskier after eating the plant. And it was the Arabian people who were the first to fire roast the beans and then grind the beans for a great tasting brew.
Coffee beans were then introduced to the Middle East, Italy, Europe, the Americas and then the rest of the world. A cup of coffee literally transformed the world in the way they started their day. The caffeine in a cup of coffee stimulates and energizes the body like no other and the world knew right away this was going to be a staple in each cultures life style.
The highest levels of caffeine are found in the seeds. That’s because the high levels of caffeine protects the plant from unwanted predators eating away at the plant. The insects eat the seeds and then go into overdrive. The same demise of the insects is the benefits to humans when they drink a cup of caffeinated coffee only they feel energized and uplifted. And yes caffeine is addicting. Thanks to the Boston Tea Party, coffee surpassed tea as the patriotic drink of choice.
It was in 1727 that Brazil first started a coffee plantation from seeds brought over from Paris. Brazil has the richest soil and perfect conditions to grow the coffee plant thus making it a great natural resource and the coffee beans produced from Brazil are of the highest quality.
Today you can get de-caffeinated coffee and even instant coffee. There are coffee shops sprouting up all over the world, Starbucks being the most recognizable. Coffee is drank in the morning, a lunch time pick me up and an after dinner drink. There is an absolute pleasure in drinking a good cup of coffee and that is why it will be around for centuries to come.
