India is second after China major tea-producing country in the world. The most famous India Black Teas are produced in Assam and Darjeeling regions of India. Assam tea is grown in northeast India, the largest tea-producing region in the world. This popular India black teas are grown at or near sea level and are known for its body, briskness, malty flavor, and strong, bright color.

Assam India black tea is the traditional breakfast tea and the base for tea lattes, Irish and English Breakfast teas.

Darjeeling India black tea is grown in the foothills of Himalayas and is one of the most famous in the world. Many of Darjeeling teas are super high quality teas and are expensive. When brewed (the proper time for brewing Darjeeling tea is 4-5 minutes), the tea produces thin-bodied, light-colored liquor with a floral aroma. Unlike most Indian black teas, Darjeeling tea has smaller leaves and less oxidation. Technically, Darjeeling teas are more Oolong than black.

Nepalese India black tea is very similar to Darjeeling tea and is grown in the plantations that are located very close to Darjeeling region of India.

Nilgiri tea is another popular India black tea. Nilgiri tea is grown in the southern part of India and is dark and very aromatic.

Tea had been known for millennia in India as a medicinal plant, but the commercial production of the tea started in 1836 by British companies. Until recent decades, only black teas were produced.
