First and foremost, you will want to know that there are two elements that are key in any Japanese tea ceremony.  These elements are water and fire.
Generally, a mizusashi or, a stoneware jar is used to hold fresh water. Then, you will find that green tea is generally kept in a small ceramic container, which is covered in fine silk. If the tea is served during the day, you will find that generally a gong is resounded. However, if you are practicing a Japanese tea ceremony in the evening, bell tolls five will chime seven times to bring the guests back into the teahouse.
After which all of the guests will taste the tea after purification and steeping of the tea. Once in the end, it will be returned to the host, who will rinse it and cleans the tea and the container itself. Once it has been cleaned, it is passed around for inspection by all of the guests that have partaken in the ceremony.
