Tea for beginners
You’ve heard about all the benefits of drinking tea and how great it tastes, not to mention how popular tea is becoming and now you have taken the plunge and tea has become your drink of choice too. So, how do you know which tea to buy and what brand? Do you buy loose tea or bagged tea? Yes, so many choices for the beginner tea drinker. Well, rest assured, with all of the different blends you will definitely find one that suits your tastes and needs.
For the beginner I would choose a tea that comes prepackaged in a bag for easy brewing and one that is mild such as green or white or herbal teas. You can move on to the loose tea once you have a bit more experience with the whole tea process. These tea bags have a delicate light taste and you can sweeten them up with sugar or honey and add some cream or lemon if you prefer. If you are currently a coffee drinker and are looking for a healthier drink, try a black tea. Black tea is processed longer then green or white and has a more robust flavor then its lighter counter parts. You will still get a boost of caffeine as these teas (unless it is herbal) have caffeine in them.
Herbal teas are caffeine free and add a great health benefit and they taste great too. They have been around since ancient times where they were used as medicinal purposes. There have been personal claims of curing everything from cancer, arthritis, allergies, sleeping problems, skin problems, anxiety, heart problems and more from drinking herbal teas. Make sure if you are pregnant or nursing you check with your doctor before drinking any herbal teas.
The brewing time for you tea is essential since that is what makes a great tasting tea. Remember, the darker the leaves the longer you will want to brew you tea. Depending on if you are making black, green, white or herb; the steeping or brewing process will range from 2 – 5 minutes: Black -3-5min, Green 2-3 min, white up to 2 min and herb 1-3 minutes depending on the herb. Remember the darker the leaf the longer it must steep for.
The fun part for the beginner is the experimenting and tasting of the different teas. As you experiment you will find the different blends will bring a pleasure and enjoyment like no other!
